Three Key Birds Hurt in Loss to Saints

Brian Westbrook, DeSean Jackson and Asante Samuel were among the wounded after the Birds were smashed by the Saints Sunday.

Westbrook went down in the second half with a right ankle sprain while Jackson left the game with a groin strain.

Head Coach Andy Reid was optimistic that both players would be back soon.

“I think we’ll be fine… We’ll find out in the next day or two,” he said.

But fans naturally will worry about B-West especially considering that he injured the same ankle that he had surgically repaired last off-season.

He also never played a full season in his seven-plus seasons with the Eagles. But this injury might not be serious enough to keep Westbrook out of the lineup.

The ankle felt sore and B-West hoped to play next week, according to ESPN.com.

Samuel went down after making a tackle in the second half.

There wasn’t much more said about the Jackson and Samuel injuries so fans may have to wait until the first injury report next week to find out if either player will be ready to play next Sunday against the Chiefs.

The other Bird to land on the injury report was Dimitri Patterson and the news doesn’t sound good for the cornerback.

Patterson “has a hand fracture and he’ll have surgery coming up here Monday or Tuesday,” Reid said.
