Clearwater Chronicle: Galvis starts at third on Saturday
Share This Post

CLEARWATER, Fla. – A couple nuggets out of Phillies camp on a Saturday morning:

•The team has released outfielder Joe Mather. He had been in camp as a non-roster invitee. Mather, 30, has big-league time with the Cardinals, Braves and Cubs.

•Interesting lineup from Charlie Manuel for this afternoon’s game against the Rays in Clearwater. Freddy Galvis is batting second and playing third base. It is Galvis’ first start of the spring at third. The assignment points to Galvis broadening his utility man profile. He can play second, third and shortstop.

Galvis projects to make the opening day roster as a backup to Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins and Michael Young. We took a look at his role on Friday (see story).

Here is today’s Phillies lineup:
Ben Revere, CF
Freddy Galvis, 3B
Chase Utley, 2B
Ryan Howard, 1B
Domonic Brown, LF
Laynce Nix, RF
Cody Asche, DH
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS
Humberto Quintero, C
John Lannan, P

Tampa Bay’s lineup:
Desmond Jennings, CF
Sean Rodriguez, 1B
Ryan Roberts, 3B
Shelley Duncan, DH
Wil Myers, LF
Brandon Guyer, RF
Jose Lobaton, C
Mike Fontenot, 2B
Shawn O’Malley, SS
Jeff Niemann, P
