Lee Hurts: It's hard out there for a Phillies fan

If Phillies fans were angry on Thursday, depression set in by Friday morning.

Just hours after Ruben Amaro Jr. failed to retool in any significant fashion, one of the pitchers thought to have pretty damn good value became worthless for the duration of the August waiver trade period.

From Jim Salisbury who was down in DC to witness Cliff Lee walking off the mound for perhaps the final time this season:

Lee missed two months earlier this season with a strained flexor-pronator tendon in his left elbow and it’s difficult to envision him pitching again this season after suffering what the team’s medical staff called a recurrence of the injury.

“It’s pretty much the same thing it was before,” Lee said after the game. “I felt it barely warming up. It came on a little stronger the last six or seven pitches I threw. It was there every throw. I just felt like if I kept throwing something was going to snap. I wanted to make sure that didn’t happen.”

There's not a lot to say at this point. The Phillies are who we thought they were. Not very good.

Now we've just got to deal with the baseball gods tossing injury on top of all of the insult.

What time does happy hour start? I think we all need it.
