Tonight's Lineup: Utley sits against Santana
Share This Post

The Phillies’ offense exploded for six runs in Monday’s 13-inning victory over the Braves on Monday night. Of course there were 11 innings of dormancy before the Phils’ onslaught.

But with righty pitcher Ervin Santana ready to pitch for the Braves on Tuesday night, manager Ryne Sandberg changed up the lineup a bit. However, finding players with success hitting against Santana is a tall task.

Only Marlon Byrd has more than one hit against Santana in his career, going 6 for 30 with a homer and a double. Meanwhile, Chase Utley is out of the lineup in favor of Cesar Hernandez. Utley is 1 for 5 with three strikeouts against Santana. Hernandez has yet to face him.

Here’s the Phillies lineup:

1. Jimmy Rollins, ss
2. Carlos Ruiz, c
3. Marlon Byrd, rf
4. Ryan Howard, 1b
5. Dom Brown, lf
6. John Mayberry Jr.
7. Reid Brignac, 3b
8. Cesar Hernandez, 2b
9. Kyle Kendrick, p

Ryan Howard homered in the second inning and drove home a run in the 13th in Monday’s victory. He also has a homer against Santana as well as four strikeouts in a 1-for-5 effort.

Collectively, the Phillies are 11 for 61 with 25 strikeouts against Santana.

Yes, it might be a long night.
