Revised Phillies lineup: Jimmy Rollins removed
Share This Post

Updated: 11:15 a.m.

Jimmy Rollins was in the Phillies' initial lineup posted Friday morning for their 2:20 p.m. game at Wrigley Field against the Cubs, but was removed less than two hours later. Rollins, who missed Wednesday's game for the birth of his second child, will arrive in Chicago on Friday night and will likely be in Saturday afternoon's lineup, according to Phillies insider Jim Salisbury. Manager Ryne Sandberg cited an internal miscommunication as the reason Rollins was in the original lineup.

Jayson Nix will fill in at shortstop for the second straight game.

Carlos Ruiz moves up to the two-hole against lefty Travis Wood. Ruiz has hit .295 with a .382 OBP vs. lefties since 2011. We explained yesterday why Ruiz belongs in the two-hole long-term against southpaws (see story).

Marlon Byrd, who had the second-highest batting average in baseball vs. lefties in 2013 (.344) is back in the cleanup spot. Ryan Howard bats fifth. Howard has held his own against lefties in this young season, doubling off Martin Perez and homering off Pedro Figueroa.

Wood, who took a perfect game into the ninth inning against the Phillies on July 10, 2010, has held lefties to a .226 batting average and .303 on-base percentage since 2011 (see game notes). But unlike Tuesday's game against Perez, Domonic Brown and Cody Asche remain in the lineup against the lefty.

4. Marlon Byrd, RF
5. Ryan Howard, 1B
6. Domonic Brown, LF
7. Jayson Nix, SS

3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
4. Nate Schierholtz, RF
5. Luis Valbuena, 3B
6. Welington Castillo, C
