Phillies acquire infielder McDonald from Indians
Share This Post

The Phillies on Thursday acquired utility infielder John McDonald from the Cleveland Indians, in exchange for a player to be named later.

McDonald, 38, primarily plays shortstop, but has also played second and third base. He has appeared in eight games with the Indians in 2013. He has no hits in seven at-bats this season.

To make room for McDonald, the Phillies have bumped catcher Steven Lerud off the 40-man roster and outrighted him to Triple A Lehigh Valley.

A corresponding move on the 25-man roster will be made when McDonald joins the Phillies on Friday in Los Angeles.
