No surgery for Cliff Lee; extended rest prescribed
Share This Post

Good news for Cliff Lee: He does not need surgery on the left elbow injury that has forced him to the disabled list twice this season.

An MRI on Lee’s elbow earlier this week showed a Grade 2 strain of the flexor-pronator tendon. An extended period of rest has been recommended. Lee is expected to begin some light throwing in the fall and is expected to be ready for spring training.

The diagnosis on Lee was confirmed by Dr. David Altchek in New York on Wednesday. Lee was treated with a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection to help the healing process.

Lee, who turns 36 later this month, has returned to his Arkansas home to rest his arm. He will not pitch again this season. David Buchanan has filled Lee's spot in the Phillies' rotation.
